Day 1 | Monday, 10/15/2018 - Fly to Lyon Home Pick-up to the airport. Overnight flight to Lyon, France. |
Day 2 | Tuesday, 10/16/2018 - Arrive / To Annecy Arrive and board the motorcoach for Annecy in the French Alps. Check into your hotel and enjoy a Welcome Dinner. |
Day 3 | Wednesday, 10/17/2018 - Annecy Located on Lake Annecy, the town is known for its Vieille Ville (old town), with cobbled streets, winding canals, and pastel-colored houses. On the hill is the medieval Château d’Annecy, once home to the Counts of Geneva. Enjoy an included lake cruise and spend the day exploring the town, before an included dinner at a local restaurant. |
Day 4 | Thursday, 10/18/2018 - Geneva / ms Provence Coach into Switzerland for a tour of metropolitan Geneva, with its dramatic views of Mont Blanc. French influence is everywhere: the language, the food, the Bohemian districts. Continue to Lyon and board the NEW ms Provence, in the style of the award-winning AMADEUS Silver ships. Day 5 | Friday, 10/19/2018 - Macon Start this wine & food cruise in southern Burgundy, with a visit to the wine museum. Take an afternoon tour of Cluny Abbey. Founded in 910, by Benedictine monks, it was once head of a monastic ‘empire’ of 10,000 monks. |
Day 6 | Saturday, 10/20/2018 - Chalon sur Saone / Tournas Take a scenic drive along France’s Burgundy wine route and arrive in Beaune, wine capital of Burgundy, for a guided tour of beautiful Hôtel Dieu, founded as a hospice in 1443. Later, enjoy a wine tasting at one of Beaune’s famous cellars. |
Day 7 | Sunday, 10/21/2018 - Lyon Tour Lyon, the third-largest city in France, at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône. See the Basilica, the Roman theatre, and the ‘Vieux Lyon’ or Old Quarter. Visit the cathedral on the hill for a spectacular view of the city. This afternoon, cruise south on the Rhône River. |
Day 8 | Monday, 10/22/2018 - Avignon Tour medieval Avignon, and the Papal Palace, once the seat of Catholic popes during the 14th century and one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. |
Day 9 | Tuesday, 10/23/2018 - Camargue Nature Park Just south of Arles, the landscape changes, with long, level roads crisscrossing the marshes and farmlands. It’s home to Camargue bulls and horses living in semi-freedom, and many species of birds. Also, visit Sainte Marie de la Mer, steeped in history and sporting stunning beaches, where the Rhône joins the Mediterranean Sea. |
Day 10 | Wednesday, 10/24/2018 - Viviers / Le Pouzin Morning sightseeing to the “Grand Canyon of Europe,” Ardeche Gorge, plunging 984 ft. Follow the famous Gorge Trail and see beautiful viewpoints such as Pont d’Arc and Serre de Tourre. Rejoin the vessel in Le Pouzin for afternoon cruising. This evening enjoy the Captain’s Gala Dinner. |
Day 11 | Thursday, 10/25/2018 - Lyon / Fly Home OR Optional Extension to the Loire Valley Disembark and transfer to the Lyon airport for your return flight home OR... Board the motorcoach and travel through the countryside to Vichy, for lunch on your own in this historic spa town. Arrive in Amboise, in the Loire Valley. Check into our hotel for 3 nights. |
Day 12 | Friday, 10/26/2018 - Optional Extension: Amboise / Champagne Enjoy a walking tour of historic Amboise, visiting its castle and narrow streets. Free time in town for shopping and lunch on own. Later visit a champagne vineyard for a tour and tasting. |
Day 13 | Saturday, 10/27/2018 - Optional Extension: Tour 2 Chateaux Today we spend the day touring two fabulous historic chateaux in the Loire Valley. These magnificent, medieval fortress homes were the summer mansions for many French Kings. Tonight's Farewell Dinner is at a local restaurant. |
Day 14 | Sunday, 10/28/2018 - To Paris / Fly Home Motor north to the Paris airport for your return flight home. Ask about our Paris hotel extension. |
