Saturday, 8/5/2017 - Arrive in Reykjavik
Welcome to Iceland. Arrive into Iceland’s capital and largest city, Reykjavík. Transfer to your hotel with the balance of the day at leisure. Tonight, enjoy our Welcome Reception.
Day 3
Sunday, 8/6/2017 - City Tour / Blue Lagoon
Morning city tour of Reykjavik, the world’s most northerly capital. Visit the residence of the Icelandic President, traverse the old town center to the Parliament, the Cathedral, the harbor, the National Museum and the Höfdi House, site of the 1986 Iceland Summit where Reagan and Gorbachev met. This afternoon, stop and swim in the famous Blue Lagoon, a unique natural pool of mineral rich geothermal water located in the middle of a lava field.

Monday, 8/7/2017 - South Shore to Vik
Morning visit of the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant, where geothermal energy has been extensively harnessed. Travel to Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, two of the numerous awe-inspiring waterfalls set along the coast.  Visit the Skogar Folk Museum to see how Icelanders creatively adapted to their challenging environment. Pass near the Solheimajökull Glacier and learn about the impact of global warming. Overnight near the small town of Vik for 2 nights.

Tuesday, 8/8/2017 - Skaftafell National Park
Day trip to Skaftafell National Park, one of Iceland’s most amazing examples of sheer natural splendor, dominated by Vatnajökull Glacier, Europe’s largest ice cap. Enjoy a short hike to see the stunning contrast between the lush vegetation and barren slopes, culminating with exciting views of the peaks in Skaftafell. Continue to the Jökulsarlon glacial lagoon for a boat ride up to its immense floating icebergs. A fantastic experience!

Wednesday, 8/9/2017 - Vik to Borgarfjordur
Visit the Friðheimar Tomato Farm and learn about the process of greenhouse horticulture in Iceland. Next, tour the Geysir geothermal area to see the great erupting Geysir and the hot spring Strokkur. Then drive to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls. Our next stop is Thingvellir National Park, a place of tremendous interest as a primary site of Iceland’s geological and historical inheritance. Drive from Thingvellir to Hraunfossar Falls and Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Overnight in Borgarfjordur.

Thursday, 8/10/2017 - Borgarfjordur to Snaefellsnes
Morning visit to Borgarnes Settlement Center to learn about Iceland’s mystical Viking era. Next, enjoy a full day excursion to Snaefellsnes Peninsula, a unique area with a variety of fascinating geological features such as lava fields, volcanoes, glaciers, mineral springs, beautifully formed rocks, yellow and black sand beaches as well as caves and captivating bird colonies. This area inspired Jules Verne’s classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Overnight in Stykkisholmur.

Friday, 8/11/2017 - Snaefellsnes to Reykjavik
Drive to Bjarnarhöfn Farm which is the region’s leading producer of a traditional Icelandic dish known as “hakarl” (cured shark meat). This afternoon in Stykkisholmur, join our optional boat trip ($70 p.p. extra) on Breidafjördur Fjord, famous for its countless islands and abundant bird life. Finally, drive back to Reykjavik for a free evening.
