Daily Itinerary:
Day 1
Saturday, 5/5/2018 - Fly to Raleigh, NC
Fly to Raleigh and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2
Sunday, 5/6/2018 - City Tour / To Atlantic Beach
Enjoy a narrated city tour of Raleigh, one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Tour the Governor's Mansion, whose interior was declared "the most beautiful in America" by FDR. Tour the State Capitol Building, see the museums of art & history, and drive through the Victorian neighborhood of Oakwood. After lunch, you'll motor south through Croatan National Forest to the ocean at Atlantic Beach and your waterfront hotel for two nights.
Day 3
Monday, 5/7/2018 - Beaufort Tour / Cruise
Today, explore the Inner Banks town of Beaufort, established in 1709. Visit the North Carolina Maritime Museum, showcasing North Carolina's cultural heritage. Shop along historic Front Street, with its Fudge Factory and General Store. See Beaufort Historic Site and the 1700's Burying Grounds among the oaks with Spanish moss. This afternoon, enjoy your cruise along the inner banks, past charming old homes, working waterfronts, and possibly see dolphins and wild horses along Shackleford Banks.
Day 4
Tuesday, 5/8/2018 - To Ocracoke Island
At Cedar Island, you'll ferry across the Pamlico Sound to colorful Ocracoke Island. The town has the feel of a New England village, but with a semi-tropical air! Settle in, and then partake in an afternoon historic tour. Hear about the island's pirate and WWII history, harrowing hurricanes, and shipwrecks. This evening, enjoy a delicious seafood dinner (the town is famous for its crab cakes and Hatteras clam chowder).
Day 5
Wednesday, 5/9/2018 - To Nags Head
Take the short ferry to Hatteras and coach past Buxton Woods, a forest of oaks, beeches, and palmettos. Towering above the dunes is candy-striped Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, tallest brick lighthouse in the country. Cross over to Roanoke Island for a visit to Fort Raleigh, home of the first English settlement in the New World. This was the town founded by Sir Walter Raleigh and pre-dated both Jamestown and Plymouth. Then, explore the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, the site of their first powered flight in 1903. Arrive at your beachfront hotel in Nags Head for two nights.
Day 6
Thursday, 5/10/2018 - Day Trip to Corolla / Safari
This morning, head north up the narrow strand to the historic town of Corolla. Embark on an off-road nature safari in specially designed vehicles as we search for wild horses, sea birds and foxes along the shore. This afternoon, tour Whalehead Club, a beautifully restored 1920s Art Nouveau style residence and also see the Currituck Beach Lighthouse & Museum. Return to your hotel and relax prior to your Farewell Dinner at a fine local restaurant.
Day 7
Friday, 5/11/2018 - To Norfolk / Home
Coach north to Norfolk, the largest US Naval Base and home to the Atlantic fleet. Visit the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial & Tomb. Later,  explore Nauticus, a maritime-themed museum located on the downtown waterfront. Then arrive at the airport for your return flights home.
